Protected temporary resident

A protected temporary resident in Canada is a status given to an individual who has been admitted to Canada on a temporary resident permit. The reason for such admittance on a temporary basis is because the Canadian Visa Officer abroad has determined that the person might be in an urgent need of protection. He or she might be facing an immediate threat to life, liberty or physical liberty. Any such applicant is well within his or her rights to apply for official permanent residency, subjected to the terms and conditions of the application.
