Also known as a closed-work permit, an employer-specific work permit allows a foreign national to
work under a specific employer in Canada for a certain time period. The work permit must include the
following details:
- the name of the employer a person can work for,
- how long a person can work, and
- The location where a person can work (if applicable).
Most of the foreign temporary workers need this document in order to legally work in Canada. The
Canadian employer must provide a job offer to the overseas candidate along with a positive a positive
Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) to prove there is no local talent available to do the job.
